Counts selected as VDOT Lebanon Residency Administrator
BRISTOL – Mel Counts recently accepted the role of Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) Lebanon Residency Administrator.
Counts began his career at VDOT 28 years ago as an equipment operator for the VDOT Blackford Area Headquarters in Russell County. Most recently, he served as assistant residency administrator for the Abingdon Residency.
Prior to his move to Abingdon, Counts held the position of maintenance operations manager for VDOT’s Lebanon Residency.
As VDOT Lebanon Residency Administrator, Counts will be responsible for overseeing the residency’s $16 million maintenance budget and the residencies 100 employees and eight facilities.
The Lebanon Residency services over 3,900 lane miles of roads in Buchanan, Russell and Tazewell counties.
Counts is a 1982 graduate of Honaker High School and served in the U.S. Air Force. He and his wife, Kim, have a grown son, Trevor. Counts has served as a volunteer fireman for 41 years. (END)
