BRIDGE WORK TO CLOSE ROUTE 621 (BRUINGTON ROAD) IN KING AND QUEEN COUNTY STARTING NOV. 1
Traffic will be detoured for an estimated two months while crews address erosion at the bridge over Dogwood Fork

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Route 621 (Bruington Road) in King and Queen County will close at the bridge over Dogwood Fork for approximately two months for a bridge maintenance project.

Bruington Road will close to through traffic on Wednesday, Nov. 1. Detour signs will guide motorists along the recommended route:

  • Route 14 (The Trail)
  • Route 360 (Richmond-Tappahannock Highway)

View an online map of the detour, which is approximately 10 miles.

Bruington Road is anticipated to reopen in late Dec. 2023.

While the bridge is closed, construction crews will be addressing bridge scour. Scour is the erosion of soil around a bridge's foundation. Addressing the scour improves the bridge condition and ensures it remains open to carry vehicles of all weights.

An average of 570 vehicles a day travel Bruington Road, according to a recent VDOT traffic count.
