MOTORISTS SHOULD REMAIN AWARE OF WEATHER IMPACTS
Residual coastal flooding remains in low-lying areas, pay attention to local forecasts and official safety announcements
SUFFOLK—As the Tropical Storm Ophelia moves beyond the Hampton Roads region, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Hampton Roads District is beginning to resume regular service and travel operations.
VDOT reminds motorists to continue taking precautions to stay safe as they travel through the region as there remains some residual coastal flooding in low-lying areas and potential for downed trees or powerlines. Motorists should give room to VDOT and other crews working to clear roads following the storm.
The I-64 Express Lanes Reversible Roadway between I-264 and I-564 in Norfolk has reopened as of 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 23, and is resuming normal operations.
The Jamestown-Scotland Ferry has resumed normal service as of 8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 23.
Speed restrictions have been lifted on most major bridges and tunnels, including the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel and the Coleman Bridge. The Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel maintains speed reductions at this time. Complete bridge information can be found here.
The public is encouraged to use the following resources provided by VDOT before traveling throughout the region:
- Motorists and pedestrians should avoid areas with downed power lines or trees, standing water and road closures. Report any problems such as flooding, downed trees or road hazards to VDOT’s 24-hour Customer Service Center by visiting my.vdot.virginia.gov or calling 1-800-FOR-ROAD (367-7623).
- Before traveling, check statewide and local traffic conditions through VDOT’s free 511 Virginia traffic tools by calling 511 (dial or say “nine” to go straight to Hampton Roads information), visiting www.511virginia.org or downloading the free 511 Virginia mobile app. 511 Virginia provides the most up-to-date, real-time travel conditions and live traffic cameras.
