Overnight Full Closure of Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) South at I-66 Planned for Tuesday Night, March 30
Ramps from Route 286 South to I-66 East and from I-66 West to Route 286 South also closed
FAIRFAX – All lanes of Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) South at I-66 will be closed during the overnight hours Tuesday night, March 30, to allow crews to move a crane into place for continued construction of new I-66 bridge foundations. The I-66 bridges over Route 286 are being widened as part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.
The ramp from Route 286 South to I-66 East, the ramp from I-66 West to Route 286 South, and two lanes on Route 286 North will also be closed during this time.
Drivers should expect delays if traveling in this area during these times and should consider using alternate routes.
Details include:
Tuesday night, March 30
Route 286 (Fairfax County Parkway) South at I-66
- Around 9 p.m., southbound Route 286 will be reduced to a single travel lane.
- Between midnight and 4 a.m., all lanes of Route 286 South at I-66 will be closed.
- All southbound Route 286 traffic will be directed to exit on to I-66 West, travel to Route 28 South, stay to the right to I-66 East, then follow signs to Route 286 South.
- One lane will reopen by 4 a.m.
- Two lanes will reopen by 5 a.m.
- The left-most lane will remain closed until 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 31.
Ramp from Route 286 South to I-66 East
- The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m.
- Traffic will be detoured to I-66 West, continue to Route 28 South, then stay to the right to I-66 East.
Ramp from I-66 West to Route 286 South
- The ramp will be closed from midnight to 4 a.m.
- Traffic will be directed to continue farther west to Route 28 South, stay to the right to I-66 East, then follow signs to Route 286 South.
Route 286 North at I-66
- Two lanes will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- The left-most lane will remain closed until 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 31.
All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
